The Waiting-Room Prayer

Lord, may you grant me a life
Of wealth and abundance
Freedom and humility
Allow me to understand
There is no life to expect
Other than the one expecting us.

Too often, I find myself
Waiting in a dark corner
In room dimly lit by crumbs of light.
I sit and look towards the half-open door,
And wait.

Allow me to see that there is no life going on in the hall.
Footsteps and drafts are the sounds made
By the lives of others – are they it real ?
From where I sit, I cannot see.

Light up this waiting room, let it reveal the heart
Of the life it never ceased to shelter.
