In the Lankavatara Sutra, the Buddha, on many occasions, positions his words away from “non-Buddhist ways”.
This is not to be understood strictly speaking, it is not a matter of rejecting all traditions other than Buddhism to the last rank of credibility…or rather, yes.
It is in the strictest, most etymological sense that this term must be understood. “Non-Buddhist paths” are paths that do not lead to Buddha (Bodhi) enlightenment.
