It is fundamental that a tradition offer a sufficiently broad framework to accommodate the reality of spiritual expression.
All traditions feature trapped areas where the floor collapses beneath our feet, throwing us spinning aimlessly into a cramped hole.
These restricted, confined placed enclose the practitioner’s heart.
He does not find there the momentum and space of his instinctive practice.
I think that these religious pitfalls were designed by jealous minds wishing to keep the practitioners captive since they were the first unable to extricate themselves,
or worst, they did not even wish to do so.
I think that mercantile logic, when it manifests itself in religious or dogmatic belief, can constitute such a pitfall.

Hence, stay clear of formalised traditions. The structure is always a trap.

A trap, indeed,
As much as a guardrail.
You’re so wild, Simon
Reminds me of my days of youth.
Time doesn(t necessarily flow from past to future (Dogen)
Unless it is you who have succeeded in preserving a freshness of heart which I have gradually lost (and called « wisdom » to soften the pain of remoteness.

Dogen is his inimitable self in that quote.
I learned the hard way the prejudice and restriction of « religion »
Never again. My work colleagues describe me as anarchic. Long may that term be applicable in every walk of life.
I am surprised you see yourself as so stale. Wisdom has nothing in common with that. Perhaps, you need to recall the spirit of the pirate and the rebel?

Stale, never.
I just notice there’s as much error on the spiritual path (mine and none other…) in wildy rejecting structure,
As in wildly embracing non structure.
‘Wisdom’ appeared as noticing that the ‘wild’ as driver / engine and fuel, may not always be the best disposition…for me.
Those aspects have stopped defining me as much as they did…
Which does not mean that they are not present in the spritual emergency kit in case suffocation appears,
Or that they may not surface back as a prominent feature in the future.
