The Quran, on many occasions, differentiates between believers and others.
It may seem, at first glance, and this impression may prove to be very tenacious and sufficient to categorize the reader’s opinion on the Quran, that this is an infantile division between the good ones, loved by God and the others, doomed to be rejected, fought, a subject against which it would be appropriate to oppose oneself.
In reality, this differentiation between believers and unbelievers aims to teach practitioners about the divine attributes that they can encounter in their own conscience.
On the one hand, what it means not to frequent the divine attributes, to tarnish oneself on the surface of one’s being in the blatant ignorance of deep realities.
In Christian language, the one who does not believe (the unbeliever) is the one who does not know: « Forgive them, they do not know what they do ».
The unbeliever ignores the divine truth that animates him
By his noise, he maintains himself in suffering.
At the bottom of consciousness, the grace of God calls.

As I see it, here are no believers, or unbelievers, without doctrine.
What I believe is merely my thought for today. I may disbelieve it tomorrow, in favour of an alternate belief, or none.
I am not a believer, as that demands a structure to which to adhere. Nor an unbeliever, as that requires a structure to reject.
Save in the eyes of those who build such castles of blindness…
So much of what are seen as holy books are written by these, or interpreted by them. Perhaps out of fear of the essential anarchy of the spirit.
Did I just write that…?

« I am not a believer, as that demands a structure to which to adhere. Nor an unbeliever, as that requires a structure to reject. »
I have the impression you hold on to (adhere?) a narrow definition of « beliefs »
A broader approach of the terms tends to make it bend towards « knowing ».
Before the knowing point, there only rejection or acceptance.
After this point, beliefs become inner smiles of recognition.
Did I just write that ?

We have different viewpoints here. To me, what is known is not believed. What is believed is unknown. Beliefs are highly mutable, knowledge only when found incorrect.

Is it not because you associate beliefs with bets/projections (?)
While I understand them (under a certain acceptation) as reflections of inner realities..

I associate belief with the unverifiable, regardless of how strongly persuaded I might be.

Your scientific mind strokes again…
Space and time replicability is not a feature of Truth in spiritual ‘matters’
Persuasion is not necessarily self-induced.
It can also be Self-induced.

It’s a defence mechanism, having spent too long among those who elevate doctrine beyond even dogma and into objective (they claim) certainty. I like to keep belief where it belongs. Carefully corralled…!

So had I assumed…
My reconciliation with belief is too recent a phenomenon to feel distant from your distancing survival reflex.
