Being rooted in a tradition, then following a path of ordination, a path of formalizing the commitment to this tradition is often an objective for the disciple and constitutes, subsequently, an authentication of the accomplishment of the path by the disciple.
This is also a dense network of identification traps and therefore of more or less subtle scleroses along the path. So behind the facade of advancement, of accomplishment, there is in reality a stagnation, even a severe misguidance.
Here, for the one who perceives this and has been somewhat confronted with the possibility of such a journey or has somewhat regretted not having pursued or carried out this request for authentication,
Having been kept away from such a development is a grace.
Freedom is my religion
When a religion locks me up, when it stops nourishing my soul,
moving away from it is a measure of spiritual survival
Space, freedom, welcome, embrace
The food of my soul,
the only one it truly feeds on.

Ordination strikes me as having more informal, but no less damaging, equivalents, than that undergone by clergy. Any seeking of position within a ritualised community, priest or layman.
Rather the hermit than the monk. The former just decides to be alone, and never can aspire to Abbot.

How can one manage to remain spiritually afloat ,
If one never aspire to Abbot ?
Sorry for that joke,
I am tired. this morning,
No filter here to prevent that from appearing ..

I know the feeling.
The serious answer is that spirituality is for sinking into.

I recently came across q quote by some dirty neuromarketer :
« our brains are like ships, they need a place to anchor » (while explaining the anchoring bias and the use thereof by evil marketers)
May be our soul, though not like ships, need to anchor as well.
I do not claim any relevant correlation between this comment and yours.

Imagery I always open to interpretation, therefore variable relevance.
Some ships never anchor. Som are submarines. Some, dissolve into the ocean, as wrecks.

Some people cannot spell « some »…
