Edge Addiction

Can you feel that what keeps you out of the state of practice, what de-centers you again and again,
What makes you an armchair disciple or a disciple sitting on a cushion in the store window ?
The powerful addiction to the ‘edge’…

At this tension point, this peak of interest that reveals to you the screen of the oscilloscope of everyday life, the summit of the sinusoid, a moving summit, from wave to wave, from one peak to another,

Your sitting practice, then, will be, at best, the counterpoint, the low point of the curve from which you propel yourself towards another peak, then another…

That is it, the ‘edge’, the exci-tension.

This taste of the edge in the mouth of your mind : you cannot do without it.

You need fasting..action fasting, the withdrawal from activity to understand this, just as the food fast questions your relationship with food.

Put this “edge” in parentheses, stop feeding it and watch it lose all its appeal, its magnetic power on you.

Thus, as anxiety-provoking, tense, exciting as the nature of the context you are going through individually and collectively may be,
you will be free.
