The common way of presenting the Final Judgment has undeniable educational virtues.
However, another reading allows us to understand this ultimate moment as access to knowledge, even if transitory, from which the genesis and scope of our words and actions will appear.
In (more) Buddhist terms, the chains of interdependence, from which we were prisoners or from which we have freed ourselves…
Today, we become aware of our deep Nature, we emerge from the narrow dimension of the sphere of the mind, matrix of illusions.

Notes & Silence 
Which, presumably, equates the last judgement with our deepest level of self understanding.
Though, whether we ever get to a last, « final » version of that, strikes me as doubtful.
