Ultimately, it is the impure parts of the mind that are irritated by such a practice, such a point of focus.
The illuminated part of consciousness really does not care about the given form.
This is also an illustration of the general meaning of awakening, of encounter.
Many things that were once fundamental, determining, cease to matter.
With the deep anchoring in the awakened consciousness,
The surface dusts find their insignificance again.

This is curious.
If the impure side of the mind is irritated by form, it has no reason to accept it. If the illuminated side is careless of form, it has no reason to accept it.
So, either way, form – by which, I assume, you mean accepted or ritualised posture and practice – seems irrelevant.
Which sounds vaguely familiar…
