Psychological Threshold of Sitting

In the practice of zazen, there is a psychological dimension… this is absolutely necessary in that it constitutes a modality, if not of refining, of awareness of psychic processes, of energies in movement.

As long as this step is not crossed (here, it is an essential scenario by way of language, in reality, this step can be crossed in a fraction of a second, just as the entire path can be traveled with each silent sitting, until the entry-into-the-current is without return), there cannot be, strictly speaking, a spiritual dimension.

Moreover, this strictly psychic expression of the practice is seductive.

This aspect potentially gives rise to stagnation in these psychological spheres, sometimes for a lifetime, without the disciple having been able to see all the riches of the foundation unfold.

The psychological dimension is a tiny dash along the dotted line that is drawn while it seeks its continuity in a transcendence.

Zazen offers this access to transcendence, through its learning of the psychological dimension and the related lures (linguistic, conceptual),

Zazen can also be the key to the disciple’s heart through which he will find transcendence in a tradition he will meet later or has previously encountered.
