To do zazen, to be penetrated by the teachings of zen,
there is nothing else to do, nothing to do but to sit.
There is nothing that is present in a book or a speech, in a distant, freeze-dried way,
that is necessary in the silence of sitting.
And there is nothing of the living teaching of sitting that can be penetrated through books or talks.
