The parable of the seed that does not grow on the edge of the road (Matthew 13:1-23) can be understood as an invitation to dwell below the rough surface of our minds, to encounter the Spirit.
What we encounter on the edge of the road (the edge of our being) will be swept away by the winds and roll away without ever taking root.
Let the spirit, ruah, the breath, the divine breath, descend.
From there, it will in turn nourish the whole being.

Like so many parables, one gets from them what one reads into them.
Here is a thought. A parable can be a trap for ideas, and hence a prison for the mind, and for the person who thinks. A method of enforcing a way of thinking.
Not saying I’m right. The idea just occurred to me as I read this post.
