God is to the soul what water is to fish,
what the sky is to birds.
We have forgotten this immediacy, this natural evidence, and the soul dries up.
The soul that moves away from God forgets the nature that sustains it and gesticulates pathetically on the shore.
Gesticulations toward death can very well take the form of discourses on the divine.

Might I suggest God and the soul are not differentiated, save in our limited understanding?

Precisely the point.
