Striking the singing bowl in the meditation areas is a primary responsibility,
just as fundamental as that of the tenzo, the cook in Zen temples.
Both, through their very being, imprint the meditators’ practice with the seal of their wisdom and spread, one through the food, the other through sound, the wordless teaching.
