The Art Of Pivoting

Consciousness is malleable. It is the mold of the outside (a context, a grace, a teaching) and the inside (practice, particular position)

The two modes of action on the structure of consciousness are not partitioned, the outside and the inside, interact.

When, thanks to a context where a practice comes to flourish, for example, consciousness takes a favorable form. It then slips into one of the points of communication between the worlds and reaches the other side.

Imagine that you are walking down a street you have walked 1000 times and that, all of a sudden, while you stop to go through your walk again, or to dazzle, by a reflection of the sun on a swinging window, or alerted by an innocuous scene…you notice a narrow passage, opening onto a courtyard where the colors and shapes seem those of another city.

As you enter this passage, it becomes clear that your shoulders, your pelvis touch the walls of the narrow alley on either side.

Spontaneously, you pivot and go to meet the courtyard by walking in profile, crossing your legs in order to get there.

This spontaneous pivot is the passage of consciousness. (Imagine again: a coin that falls out of your pocket and starts rolling on its edge,

You chase it and reach out to catch it. As it meets the grids of a plate on the ground, they slightly modify its axis of movement, enough to allow it to pass through the grid….)

These alleys are the points of contact, of superposition between the worlds.

This pivoting is the result of your practice,
The action of external grace,
The encounter between your practice and external grace,

The expression of your sensitivity,

The poetry of the depths.

    1. I don’t know, Simon…
I do remember though trying to ‘observe’ the ‘observer’ ‘observing’ once and finding the whole thing…eventually, circular and pointless…
Or, from another perspective, as a trap locking me up in an endless self-centered spiral.
Someone had to take my head out of those smothering smokes.

(this is a contemporary comment on a post edited a while ago…
Sometimes, i post them automatically, without really considering the relevance regarding my current ‘spiritual life’.
They seem to report on the reality of a past and buried stratum.

  1. « Unconsciously foundational »
That is exactly what I felt while being unable to express it (unconsciously)…and why I keep posting them even though I can’t see a direct point at the moment (foundational)

    Thank you, Simon
