Extraordinary Courage and Ordinary Lies

It is in Man a primordial need to maintain his psychological coherence that explains why lies as crude as those that are served to him are not questioned: they contribute to fighting against psychological collapse. Thus, man integrates them.

Only the individual who has acquired, through his personal history (repeated collapses of world representations) or through a particular constitution (grace, spiritual work) will be able to make the truth prevail over the short-term consolidation of the inner edifice.

The great plasticity such an individual would show will allow him to express a courage that is literally beyond the norm.
