The Apparition Phenomenon

The apparition phenomenon is both real and illusory.

Real: it is the manifestation of deep consciousness that pierces through to the superficial layers.

Illusory: this manifestation is perceived and named from the superficial layer, unable to understand its deep origin.

The little concern that Buddhists have for the form through different manifestations: Avalokiteshvara, Guan Yin, Kannon, man, then woman… is an invitation to this understanding.

Similarly, familiarization with the avatarization of these figures referring to a unique reality can open up to the reality of deep energies and their manifestations.

The space, the fluidity that Mahayana Buddhism allows around these transient phenomenal cristallisations greatly facilitates this understanding.

Thus, the Zen monk Thich Nhat Hanh said he bowed every time he came across the statue of the Virgin Mary.
