Kodo Sawaki says that all Buddhism is just a footnote to the practice of silent sitting,
A footnote is a complementary, accessory teaching, a potentially interesting additional content, but not a fundamental support for the term it annotates.
The term does well without the note.
The note, without the term, is nothing.
The note is also born from the editor’s perspective and thoughts so as to facilitate or guide along the reader’s path.
Therefore can be useful or totally useless,
harmless or detailing,
read or neglected

… as relevant as the reader makes it.
I have never been a Buddhist.
My experience of other structured religion tends to drive me toward irrelevance as the only safe conclusion, for any of them.
