Healing Through Impermanence

When attachment is identified by the practitioner as a source of suffering and this understanding alone is not enough to allow him to free himself from this attachment,

When this attachment develops its full inhibitory potential in the practitioner’s life, it is then beneficial to focus not on the suffering resulting from the attachment but on the other side of this suffering: the reality of impermanence.

This will have the effect of discharging the attachment of its power of attraction and allowing the practitioner to get moving again,

Thus, the magnetic character of the object of attachment is the result of a complex assembly of criteria, on the one hand, and of a configuration of perceptions of the one who is its prisoner on the other hand.

This configuration is necessarily transitory,

Would the eyes of the mind pivot in such a way as to turn the once cherished object into something banal, even unbearable,

Thus, the criteria defining this object in my eyes can, and will, evolve, impacting the thing in such a way that the attractiveness completely evaporates.

Therefore, it is not wise to invest so much energy, to give such a fundamental role to what I am attached to today.

For example, the house that I love so much and this garden to which I am so attached would lose all power of definition, of influence on my choice today if one of my neighbors disappeared, moved and was replaced by an unbearable techno music lover.

Suddenly, the much-loved garden would lose all interest and existence within these walls would be suffering,

Can I see that the hidden beauty is not my garden and that calm does not exist essentially within the walls, that I potentially carry them within me and then, at every moment, not hold back their blossoming?
