It is not useful to understand the content of the Hannya Shingyo,
reciting the sounds of this text is enough to orient the soul/consciousness of the disciple in the direction of the teachings.
Zen is large, as long as we do not put names on things,
thus, we allow them to express themselves in all their magnitude,
No name, no appropriation, no restriction,
Sit beyond names
Do not seek to understand zazen
That is zazen.

You’re right… i believe it does not mean much.
I tried to translate what we refere to in French as « la sainte ignorance » /to differentiate it from raving stupidity…
The idea is that wisdom is in knowing that there is no wisdom in knowing;..
Or something like that…
Blessed ignorance, HOly ignorance, maybe would fit in more naturally,
What do you think.
(I may also have referred, as far as I can understand and remember) to the Cloud of Unknowing, by brother Lawrence, which I’m sure you’re familiar with.

Somehow, my brain read « I don’t understand »…and got me writing a few lines…which are now unnecessary.
