Ritual prayer: I am seized by a surge of joy
a joy bathed in sweetness
at the very heart of the prayer that I approach this morning almost automatically,
I am surprised by the relief that I suddenly give in to it.
Life breathes through the gesture, the words of the prayer and, even as it comes to an end,
I tell myself that they could just as well stretch out
for eternity,
This sweetness and this joy are the heart of the practice, I see it. Prayer in which sweetness and joy are absent is not effective,
Really, it misses its target,
The encounter is not operative.
Above all, do not expect anything (mushotoku: non-spirit of profit)
Above all, do not attach to any outcome (when you do this, then, that happens)
Simply, make yourself available
Simply, contemplate life when it breathes through.

Hmm…
There are many rituals. Just saying « Hello » is a ritual. If a prayer amounts to saying « Good Morning » to your deity, fair enough.
But, if there is belief in an intelligence, why not speak to it as such? With the words of the heart now, not the memory of established practice.
