Ritual Freedom and the In-Draft 1/2

It is fundamental to perform the ritual: the bowing, hands clasped, the striking of the mallet on the wood, on the bowl, to light the candle from a point of freedom within ourselves.

To perform the ritual because we have the freedom not to do it.
True belief is free from belief.
The former is integration, deep understanding; the latter is superstition.

I don’t believe in the educational potential of the latter. The relationship between superstition and understanding is not linear or chronological.
To move from one to the other, a leap is required.

Superstition is an obstacle to understanding. It reveals that the leap of understanding has not taken place.
I do not bow because everyone else is bowing, because I have been told to bow, because I would send a certain signal to the community by not bowing,
or because I do not fear the more or less subtle reprisals if I do not bow.
I bow because, from my great freedom not to bow, I perceive in that moment the profound meaning of bowing and wish to express it through my body.

Moreover, I do not bow,
what bows then is a free expression of the depths.
