What Does Zen Do?

Zazen reduces the framework of practice to the bare minimum.

This approach of radical simplification is what is necessary to become aware of what is excessive and harmful to the practice.

If the framework of practice is full of artifice, accessories, if it is cluttered with mental material (concepts and mental imagery), these harmful elements cannot be observed. In ocean water, a single drop of blood attracts the attention of a shark.

The further one advances on this path of simplifying the framework, the more difficult and painful the steps of distancing oneself from the « excess » become,

the more liberating they become.

This is a birth, a challenge, a revelation.
Ultimately, even the « Buddhist » framework, even the framework of Zen, must dissolve.

This is an intimate journey.
