Religion can also be a corner of spirituality, a room in the cosmos where we feel at home.
I have no problem with that understanding, as long as we understand it this way and don’t try to pretend that the room is the only residence there is.
Knowing this, it’s possible to never lose sight of the larger, ever-expanding whole within which this place of refuge is a part.
Furthermore, all rooms can open their windows and let in a view of all life.
On the other hand, stop suffocating in windowless rooms.
Get out.

Hmm.
Problem is that religion is never « just » that.
It is always a systemic (self) imposition more akin to closing the window shutters.
« Get out » is the best advice, I think.
A reaction which will hardly surprise you, I think.
Someone called me an « apostate » recently. I prefer « heretic, » but the two are closely linked, I suppose…!

one can also be an all-out heretic while perfectly included in one’s religious community and all dressed in the most perfect piety clothes.

On that basis, I’ll adopt « apostate ».
In fairness, the person so describing me was merely trying to be accurate when I called myself a heretic. There was no (known) animosity.

In a sense, apostatasing can be a more certain way to acquire « salvation »/ to be visited by the Light.
It comes down to signalling oneself as the lost sheep,
like firing a distress beacon.
I think I am kidding.
But I’m not so sure yet.
