“God of Love and Emptiness”

I am struck by reading James Finley who calls Jesus the “God of Love and Emptiness”, and reveals with simplicity the link of continuity between emptiness and compassion,

Emptiness, absence of ego, and love,
God of Love, God of Emptiness,
are not two possible facets but a single reality under two attributes.

Without emptiness, there can be no love, love is the child of emptiness.
Perfect, total love is the child of pure emptiness.
The father and the Son are indeed not 2.
Perfect love takes birth in pure emptiness.

Emptiness can only “love the world so much” and “give it its only Son”,
And the son is “unique”: he cannot be other than all love.
Compassion for the world is the expression of emptiness.

Let us return to Dogen’s words: To study the Way is to study oneself; to study oneself is to forget oneself; To forget oneself is to be certified by all existences.

Self-emptiness is the nature of things.
Emptiness is our nature,

Self-presence has never taken place anywhere other than in the mind, and is the fundamental illusion.

The nature of everything is divine.
The absence of this divine nature is only an illusion due to distance.
