The expression of spirituality will occur in a given person according to their personal disposition: externally (divine attributes, devotion, attention to revelations and belonging) or internally (experience of the deepest layers of consciousness, investigation, contact with the depths of the soul).
The opposition between these external and internal expressions is irrelevant since these two approaches are so intimately linked that they are one reality.
The external/internal separation is established only in the mind of those who have not accessed this fundamental oneness.
Moreover, the tendency to grant hierarchical superiority to the inner expressions of spirituality underscores this same ignorance. However, we often observe an evolution along the following sequences: apprehension of spirituality through exteriority, apprehension of spirituality through interiority.
Realization of the artificial nature of this separation, opening to the one reality.
The intertwinings of reciprocal determination between interior and exterior are so dense, so dynamic, that they can only be one and the same whole…
That it is a matter of uniting, following the etymological meaning of ‘symbol,’ the exterior is what the symbol refers to, two parts of the same talisman that must be united.
One definition of spirituality could be as followss: the practice of sewing together the pieces of the fabric of exteriority and interiority, then removing the stitching marks, in order to obtain a single piece.
Spirituality is the reunification of the inner and the outer; consciousness is the world, the body, and the universe. The various practices and prayers are the movements of the needle’s thread in the fabric of the inner and outer layers.
Do not disparage the outer approach to spirituality, for it is the gateway to your inner self.
Do not neglect the inner approach to spirituality, for it is the soil where your outer practices can take root and discover the depths.
To unite before your eyes the unique piece of Reality, you must sew these two pieces of fabric together.

If the external expresses what is within, it is spirituality; there is no conflict.
If it does not, it is mere religion, and will become ash in the gaze of spiritual development.
