In zazen I will finally see what is happening beyond the curtain of the mind. To prevent people from investigating the realm beyond the mind, it is very effective to paint stories about God on the curtain.
This is the surest way to prevent the practitioner from going to meet Him.
Indeed, by not daring to leave God, he will remain infinitely distant from Him.

This reminded me of a verse from The City of Dreadful Night (quoted from memory, may not be word perfect):
« The sense that every struggle brings defeat,
Because Fate holds no prize to crown success;
That all the oracles are dumb, or cheat,
Because they have no secret to express;
That none can pierce the vast, black veil, uncertain,
Because there lies no light beyond the curtain;
That all is vanity, and nothingness. »

Very beautiful passage,
It really looks words perfect to me.
There a an ‘Ecclesiastes’ touch to this.

Try reading the entire poem.
It is lengthy.
The author (James Thomson) had issues… I believe addiction to alcohol may have been one of them.
Do not read if already depressed.
