Jesus said that he came to bring not peace, but a sword.
Like the illusions in Zen that are cut through, the sword that Christ brings severs within us the bonds, the tentacles of the world that extend toward us and seek to encircle our bodies and minds, their tips covered in sensory suction cups and sensual lures.
Our receptors, straining outward, grasp and lock themselves in place. The points of attachment multiply, the tentacles stir and converge to ensnare us until our soul is suffocated.
What Christ brings within us is the sword that will sever them.
