To rephrase Harada, in The Essence of Zen, it is the perception of things which creates things.
This does not mean they had no existence prior to this grounding in the ego-self through its perception process.
It means they only start to exist as ‘things’ the moment we perceive them.
Prior to this, the question of their existence is non relevant, unnecessary, for existence is always a relative status requiring a ‘noting platform’, called the ego-self.
Investigating ahead of tagging and naming allows us to experience things before they become things.
