The true meaning of evangelization is not to make the other end up using Christian terminology to illustrate their inner life, but to clarify their inner landscapes in the light of the one we call Christ.
Evangelization is participation in illuminating the soul, in the awakening of the other, regardless of the system within which they journey, whether or not they remain within a system, whether or not they journey, evangelization has nothing to do with any system.
Working to allow the coming of Christ within us—that is evangelization.
Fundamentally, God is one and the Word of God is one.

As I think you are aware, I have been, and have been among, evangelicals. Don’t take this comment as dismissive or aggressive – but it does have a basis in my dislike of evangelicals and the prospect of having to spend several hours with them next Monday at a family wedding. My presence there might be shorter than expected if any of them start trying to ply their dead trade with me.
The word evangelism « means » to bring good news.
Unfortunately, evangelicals rarely have the discretion to realise that their message is nothing more than another argument from doctrinal assertion, and then to shut up about it.
I have known great harm be done by evangelism. As far as I am concerned, the word has no « true meaning » A literal, translated meaning, but « true » meanings usually betray the arrogance of the preacher who is convinced of his or her own moral rectitude on no better basis than his or her self-righteousness.
The first question that comes to mind when reading your post – what has this to got to do with anyone, or any idea, identified as « Christ »? Is not the better news that we can all be free of such concepts?

Hello Simon,
I’m convinced your reaction has indeed a lot to do with the upcoming wedding you need to attend.
I’m also convinced your presence will be shortened for, as far as I can tell, the profile your are describing can hardly refrain from « plying their dead trade » on others.
By ‘true meaning’ I meant ‘inner meaning’.
…’that we can all be free of such concepts » is the good news.
The Kingdom is near, turn inward, and see.(Mark, 1, 15)
What others believe, based on the configurations of their own prisms and filters is others’ business.
I have enough to do with working my way out of personal prisms and filters.

You are correct. The last time I attended a funeral amongst this group, one of them could not wait to try to buttonhole me and ask if I had considered returning to the church.
Equally, there will people there, from my wife’s family, (including the groom and his parents) I am not eager to upset.
My strategy will be to permit any one person 3 polite refusals to engage. If they persist beyond that, I am likely to become « truculent ».
Anyhow, forgive me if I seek to distance myself from Christian theological language. It’s a prism I would rather not gaze into.
