Return to Simplicity

My friend,
Don’t spend too much time in dojos.
Don’t be captivated by the terminology and the monks’ robes.

For then you would miss the eternal freshness of the present moment.
The more you know, the further you stray from it.

Before being a sitting practice, the simple sitting practice is simple.
This simplicity is the opening of doors and the force of the free flow of currents leading you beyond.

Too much knowledge, too much discourse, too much fixation on points of doctrine, too much fascination with form and cultural context are all factors that stagnate these currents of liberation.
They can only express themselves in perfect freedom.

And the more experience and knowledge you acquire,
the more weight your words carry in the community,
the further you will have actually drifted from the practice.
