In his book, the Essence of Zen*, Sekkei Harada mentions the ego-self and quotes Dogen’s Zazengi :
We cannot explain…Zazen is zazen.
We have to say a little bit about this for beginners, but eventually we have to understand that zazen is zazen.
Saying that, he prohibits any attempt by the ego-self at stepping in.
He says there is not the slightest gap where the ego self can step in.
My point here is…talking about the ego-self is great news :
It means that if there is the ego-self to let go of, there is the non-ego self to investigate.
