If you are worried about knowing how many will be present at the sitting session,
If you repeat in your thoughts the sentences from teachings,
If you fear that a newcomer, more articulate more cultured, more appealing than yourself,
mingle with your disciples,
it may be that your awakening is not deep enough and you need to sit alone some more.
Because these insecurities are precisely what risks not helping those who will accompany you.
Noticing it here, is already a teaching you’re receiving from yourself.

A warning against arrogant self-image that is applicable, also to the older – and to anyone foolish enough to call him or herself « master ». Age, actually, seems to me of limited relevance to maturity.
In any « group practice », is not each one alone? If so, what is teacher or a master? Perhaps we should say, rather: « one who speaks of, or from, experience »?
Perhaps we should avoid groups. Certainly, that is the my experience seems to have taken me.
